On Monday I told you about the Ordinary People Changed the World Blog Tour this month. We shared I Am Abraham Lincoln on Monday. Today we get to share with you the first book in the series that we read, I Am Lucille Ball. We had the pleasure of reviewing this book back over the summer. It is the book that made Hazel fall in love with the series although now that she has read all of the books in the series thus far I do not think it is her favorite. Brad Meltzer and Christopher Eliopoulos are doing an amazing job of bringing real life heroes to kids. And we are talking about people who deserve to be role models for our kids.

As we did for Abraham Lincoln, we made a puppet of Lucille Ball.

We used one of the people shapes and crafts sticks from Lakeshore Learning and then used scrapbook paper for her dress with the addition of a piece of ribbon. Hazel loved making these puppets and wanted them to hold hands as we made them.

She felt they should hold hands since all the people in the books do something that changed the world for the better! Now in I Am Lucille Ball the message is to be yourself and not worry about what others think. It is also about working hard to get what you want. The "joke" through the book is that she is not a proper girl. Personally I love reading books about strong women to Hazel so she sees that women can be strong and successful.  Join us the rest of the month for more of these great books!!
