Today we get to share a fun new book by Carole P. Roman and be part of the blog tour that includes a giveaway. Now I will admit we fell in love Carole's books back with the Captain No Beard series. Those books are wonderful picture books with imagination and lessons! Today's book is an early reader chapter book and it is her first! The book is Oh Susannah: It's in the Bag and it is illustrated by Mateya Arkova. The suggested age range for this book is 7 - 10 years old.

This book tells the story of Susannah's regular day. She wakes up knowing she did not finish her homework. She didn't understand it the night before and her parents were too busy to help. The day gets worse from there and her bag more full and heavy. She becomes overwhelmed with the prospect of her first sleepover at her friend's house (where her friend's brother has told them there are ghosts) and a pop test based on that homework and more and more. We all have had those days where everything that can go wrong does and we are completely overwhelmed and feel helpless. It isn't until she is dreaming and her parents hear her that she gets the help she needs. Her parents take the time during the night to help her overcome all the growing problems that are in her broken bag. They realize they need to slow down and be more present as a family.

This book is a wonderful read and perfect for kids to learn to ask for help and deal with problems as they come. It is an easy reader chapter book and will help those kids under the stress of school when it is beginning.
